The Process of Surrendering

Continued from part 1…Sacred Heart Space.

Surrender seems easy enough. Right?

For me it was one of the most challenging lessons to learn. I used to surrender within controlled parameters. Basically, saying I only surrender if this happens, otherwise tap me out. Upon reflection, my definition was far from surrendering.

If you are known as a bit of a control freak, then no matter how spiritual you believe to be, you have not yet surrendered. Not really. You fit into the “surrender with controlled parameters group”.

Control is an illusion.

Think of a time when you took a transformative course or attended a retreat. You felt amazing at the end, right? It is because you surrendered to following the process and the itinerary because you knew there is something good that will come from it. On some level you felt safe.

If only we had that someone to keep us aligned when we are not in a course or a retreat?! Oh wait! That is what is coach is for!! That is one of the main reasons I have few coaches, because my mission and purpose is too great to be hiding out and playing small.

When you are feeling stuck, frustrated, and overwhelmed it is because you are trying to control the direction and outcome to what you believe to be your path. You are resisting the surrendering process. That is when things become hard. That is when things feel out of reach. That is when you feel disconnected and conflicted. Leading you to avoid doing the things you know will bring you back into alignment and giving power to your inner critic.

When I think back to 5 years ago and remember my goals and dreams and reflect to where I am now, I am in awe. I remember when I took my first transformational course in 2018. My intention was to improve my communication skills for my nutrition business. I remember I learned that it had Time Line Therapy as well as Hypnotherapy. At that time, I thought it was woohoo – too woohoo for me. I wasn’t one of “those” spiritual people…I laugh thinking back now because I am totally one of “those” spiritual people! At the end of the course, I was hooked into that woohoo stuff. Still didn’t believe in myself, but I got results and I couldn’t deny it. I had proof that it worked. I felt alive and free. Things that were weighing me down didn’t bother me at all. I laughed when people I loved tried to use guilt to get me to do things. Of course I knew better than to laugh in their face, but it was hilarious inside my mind when they tried. For me learning about the mind was pandora’s box. I had to learn more which led me to become an International Transformational Trainer.

My life is not at all what I thought it would be when I was dreaming of the future. It is way more than I could have ever hoped for. I pinch myself sometimes because becoming an international trainer, healer and spiritual guide is something I never thought I could be. If I had tried to control the outcome, I would never be where I am today. My passion and mission align in guiding healers to magnify their light, empowering them to confidently be a catalyst healer that inspires change.

Get comfortable with slowing down and going inward

I had to get comfortable with going in deeper. Surrendering to going inward to heal the obstacles I was facing. I had to get comfortable with slowing down and feeling what I was feeling. Running away from my feelings does not work. It prolongs the suffering.

When you have a hectic schedule that leaves little room for personal reflection it is a sign you are avoiding your feelings. The pandemic brought light to this for many people, including me. With the isolation, my schedule was completely lightened up. No more driving my daughter to her day program, or activities – which was like a part time job on its own. It was about 3 hours a day that I got back to myself. Which was great at first, but then it wasn’t.

Here is the reality. Many people do not feel comfortable going in deep, even healers. Sometimes healers are the hardest to work with because they already feel they have an explanation for why they are feeling stuck. But if that was the case, they wouldn’t be stuck and talking with me. You cannot consciously figure out what is happening in your unconscious mind. That is why I always ask for help when I am overwhelmed and feel stagnant.

When you are presented with negative feelings, events, or thoughts it is a sign for you to further explore what there is to release. Figure out why you trigger because triggers are a sign of something to be healed. It is a gift so that you can release more and have greater clarity on your purpose and mission. To remember who you are – at the soul level.

Negative emotions are a sign that something is out of alignment. It’s just feedback. I’d say 80% of the time it is boundaries that have been infringed upon. Where you need to decide if it is something you need to stand in your power and confidently say what you want, or something that really isn’t that important, and you can let go easily. The key is to not get stuck in the negative emotion.

A sign for me that I am hitting something big to release is when everything seems hard. Grounding and centering are more challenging. In addition, I have a hard time focusing and tend to procrastinate…a lot. I will often hear myself saying excuses for why resting right now is necessary. Don’t get me wrong, there are times rest and slowing down is good. That is not what I am talking about now.

All emotions have a beginning, middle and end. When you feel stuck it is because you are trying to avoid feeling the emotion and get stuck somewhere in the middle. Resistance and avoidance are signs you are not surrendering. This is commonly seen for those who experienced a traumatic event.

Surrendering involves Self Forgiveness

The deeper I went within, the more I opened up. The more patient I had to become with myself with what was unfolding. The more I surrendered control because I knew I couldn’t “will it” away or force it to happen quicker.

One of the first steps in surrendering is self-forgiveness. You didn’t know any better. You did the best you could with the resources you had. What is important is that you are on the path of discovering who you are at the soul level. This is a gift that only you can give yourself.

It is in these intimate moments of surrender that you begin to see the magic that is within you.

I have personally found that the words, “I surrender” said out loud after grounding and centering has had the greatest impact. Once I go inward into my sacred heart space and listen for my guidance, I then thank the messages that I have received. It is a gift. One I do not take for granted anymore.

Last summer when I was struggling with burnout, my good friend and colleague asked me if I had actually said I surrender out loud. She knew I was at the brink of breaking through the struggle and knew it was the last step for me expand and grow spiritually. I had realized I had not. Once I did, everything became clear, and I created my new program Soul Harmony – Heart Mind Healing.

Healing within is the greatest gift you can give yourself, as well as your family. You can end the negative beliefs and baggage of the past for everyone. As you continue to grow and expand, you inevitably give more options to those you love to grow and expand alongside of you. It gives them more choices and more freedom. Such a beautiful gift.

You will feel more alive and have more clarity when you step into who you were always meant to be. Aligned, confident and resourceful healer and lightworker. When you shine your light inward, you radiate brighter and brighter which gets echoed back at you.

Be sure to read Sacred Heart Space part 3 where I will be sharing how to connect with your heart space to achieve greater abundance, joy and become more aligned and in flow.
